    Side effects discontinuing plaquenil

I took the drug as a treatment for sarcoidosis and one of the side effects is a reduction in white blood cells, which is what has happened to me. Plaquenil is used in the treatment of sarcoidosis but its main use is in the treatment of malaria.

Thanks for the replies I'm on 200mg of paquenil twice a day I think the main reason the consultant suggested stopping it for a month was because I probably came over quite wishy washy as to whether it was helping me or not and he basically said quite often the best way to tell how much it is helping is to stop it for a month and see if you feel worse which I the time I thought made sense? That said, my doctor had originally prescribed for me to take 100mg/day for one week and then increase to 200mg/day. When I increased to 200mg/day, I had strange side effects that caused me to go back to 100/day. Strange leg cramping, restless leg, nausea and anxiety. In a nutshell, at 200mg/day the side effects outweighed the benefits. If you arent already, split your doses up and take it with food. It may help your stomach issues. Im glad you are not stopping the plaq. Also, after a few weeks of being on it again your stomach issues may go away. This is a common side effect but usually subsides once your body adjusts to the medication. xoxox Feb 19, 2020 PLAQUENIL does not prevent relapses of P. vivax or P. ovale because it is not active against the hypnozoite forms of these parasites.
